Welcome to StoryCorps’ section devoted to great questions. You can use our Question Generator tool (below) to create a list of questions for your interview. You can also print out and use our great questions list.
The process takes about 15 minutes. Before you begin using the Question Generator, make sure you have either a valid email address or access to a printer on the computer you’re working on now, because you’ll have to print out the list when you’re done or have us email the list to you.
What is the name of the person you will be interviewing?
What is the full name of the person you will be remembering?
By what name did you and your partner refer to him or her?
Think about two or three key stories you'd like to capture in your interview. Don't worry about preserving facts, such as names and dates; you can get those details down on paper later. Instead, use the session to capture stories and memories. In our experience, questions about feelings and emotions spark great conversations.
You should start your interview with an ID question: "Can you tell me your name, age, the date, and where we are?"
There are also a few questions that we've found are always great to include in interviews. Please check any that you would like to add to your list. You will be given the opportunity to add questions of your own at the end.
